Description
|
You know the problem. You have a few files you want to send to someone, but they are either too big to send through email, or MSN/Skype/AIM or whatever
messenger you are using is just to darn slow - if it works at all. The problem is that most people are behind network routers nowadays which
have built in firewalls blocking all kinds of ports needed for a reliable file transfer to work. Besides that, both parties need to have the same
software running for the file transfer (when not using email). So if one has MSN and the other Skype, you are out of luck.
Bring in the cavalry WebShare. WebShare is a small webserver-like program you can run to share files with others. Other people don't
need special software, just their web browser. You start WebShare, then drag and drop the files/folders/drives you wish to share and send a link to the other
party. He or she can then simply download the files through their browser. It's as simple as that. WebShare will setup your router for you, figure out what
your true IP address is (most of the time your computer has an IP address that's local to your network which is not the same as the IP address through which
others can reach you over the internet) and will even clean up after itself when you are done sharing your files. You can even password protect the files.

Description
|
A few years ago, I got myself a GPS receiver for my laptop. At the
time I knew nothing about how GPS receivers worked, and I thought my
GPS receiver was broken because my navigation program didn't display
my position, not even after a few minutes (it wasn't broken, it was
just doing its initial fix which can take up to 45 minutes - but what
did I know?). I downloaded a few GPS viewer programs, but none actually
displayed the info I wanted. So I wrote my own.
One of the nice things about this program is that it actually projects
the received satellites onto the map, along with your current position
of course. It's nice to see where in fact the satellites are. You can
also customize PGV with your own maps. PGV supports "Normal Projected"
maps (or "Flat Maps") and "Miller Projected" maps.
Right now, PGV only works with USB and serial NMEA compatible receivers.

|
Description
|
Not so very long ago, I got myself an iPAQ PocketPC. Being a programmer, one
of the first things I did was try writing a program for it. Since at the same
time I was trying to find a PocketPC version of the old Commodore 64 game
"Atomix" - and since I couldn't find it - I decided to combine the two and
write a PocketPC port of the game. It took me about a week to program and I've
kept it as close as possible to the original. All the original 30 levels are
here and the graphics are very similar to the original game (albeit with a whole
lot better quality!).
IMPORTANT! If, during installation, your
handheld displays the message
'The file
"\Windows\pvbform2.dll" is hidden, read-only,
or a system file. Would you like to replace the
existing file?'
then please tap "Yes To All".
